Registration and re-registration in the city of Gera

If you have moved to Gera or within the city of Gera, you must register or re-register yourself and all other persons living in your household here. According to the Federal Registration Act, the registration or re-registration must be completed at StadtService H35 within two weeks of the move. 

With the entry into force of the Federal Registration Act on November 1, 2015, the cooperation of the landlord has been introduced for registration, deregistration or re-registration. This means that a confirmation from the landlord must be submitted with every re-registration. The presentation of a tenancy agreement is not sufficient. Landlords are obliged to issue such confirmation within two weeks of moving in. 

Registration, de-registration or re-registration by persons with power of attorney is generally not possible. Exception: Family members, persons living in the household as well as guardians and persons with power of attorney, insofar as their area of responsibility includes matters relating to registration law or the right to determine residence.

For underage children up to the age of 16, a declaration of consent from both parents is required if both are custodians. You can find a corresponding form under Downloads. Otherwise, the custodial parent can re-register the child if they can provide proof of custody by means of a custody order or a negative certificate (not older than 4 weeks).  

Please bring the civil status documents (e.g. birth certificate and/or marriage certificate / custody order / negative certificate) with you to the appointment.

Deregistration

If you move from Gera to another municipality within the federal territory with your main residence, the obligation to deregister does not apply. You can register at the new place of residence without submitting a confirmation of deregistration.

If you move abroad from Gera, you must deregister yourself and any other persons living in your household here. This is possible at the earliest one week before you move out. You must appear in person and present all identification documents (identity card or passport).
