Course set for broadband expansion in the city of Gera

Fast internet will also be available to previously underserved areas in Gera in future. 

In March 2022, the city council commissioned Telekom to connect underserved districts, schools and commercial areas to the existing broadband network in Gera by the end of 2024. All addresses that were reported to the city of Gera in a market exploration procedure with a coverage of less than 30 Mbit/s are eligible and therefore in the expansion area. 

Around EUR 22.9 million will be invested, of which the federal government will provide 60% and the Free State of Thuringia 40%. The city of Gera's GeoPortal shows where the subsidized broadband expansion is being implemented in the city area. The contracted telecommunications company will decide when and where the expansion will take place.
