City council, committees and district councils

The City Council consists of 42 City Council members and the Lord Mayor. The City Council members are elected by the citizens of the city for a term of five years, with the current term beginning in June 2019 and ending in May 2024.

City Council meetings are usually held once a month on Wednesdays from 5:30 pm and, if required, on Thursdays from 6:00 pm in the town hall meeting room. Question time for residents is part of the town council meeting.

Question time for residents

In accordance with Section 22 Main statutes of the city of Gera , residents of Gera and representatives of citizens' initiatives and associations have the opportunity to ask questions of the city administration and councillors at every Gera City Council meeting.

The condition is that the issues relate directly to the concerns of the City of Gera. Each questioner can submit two questions from residents; the question should not contain more than three sub-questions. The question can be submitted in writing in advance or presented orally on the day of the City Council meeting. The Lord Mayor decides after consultation whether the question will be answered orally during the City Council meeting or in writing afterwards.
