In addition to the extremely diverse range of high culture, Gera offers a fascinating broad cultural scene. The Haus der Kultur, the Comma club center, the Hofwiesenpark and the Hofwiesenparkbühne stage offer a varied programme for young and old all year round: for example, the Ü30 party, Women's Day and New Year's Eve events are organized here and famous artists are invited.

The Cultural Office has set itself the task of enlivening Gera's beautiful city center with culture: formats such as Summer in the City, the Hofwiesenparkfest, the Geraer Höhlerfest in autumn as well as the Tierpark and Dahlia Festival, Kultur im Küchengarten and the Fête de la Musique offer a wide range of cultural events throughout the year. The weekly green market, special markets such as the pottery market and the French and Italian gourmet market are also popular. The highlight for the city's youngest citizens is the annual Tierpark Summer Safari. One of the largest markets is the Gera pottery market, which traditionally takes place on the last weekend in May. The market with the most exhibitors and visitors is the traditional Gera Fairytale Market, one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Thuringia.

The Events/Markets department's remit is rounded off by the organization of in-house and cooperative events to promote business and education. These include trade fairs such as the training exchange and GERA WOHNEN.
