Gera is a city of culture in a special way! The five-division theater, a concert hall and a theater hall as well as other venues, parks, important architectural monuments, especially of the 20th century, outstanding works of art by Otto Dix, Aenne Biermann, Kurt Günther and others, historical objects such as the sarcophagus of Heinrich Posthumus Reuß, artists from or working in the city such as Heinrich Schütz, Henry van der Velde, Thilo Schoder, Karl Weschke, Andreas Dresen, Lutz Seiler, Sebastian Heindl and others, city festivals and a great commitment to and participation in the cultural life of the city.

The task of the Cultural Office is to preserve and further develop the city's culture - theaters, museums, festivals - to organize events and to act as a partner to various institutions and artists in a promotional and advisory capacity.

The Cultural Office comprises the following departments:

  • City marketing and tourism
