Voluntary service

Federal Volunteer Service of the City of Gera

What is meant by this?

The Federal Volunteer Service is an opportunity for women and men of all ages to work for the common good outside of work and school.

Who can provide the service?

Anyone who has completed compulsory full-time schooling can take part in the Federal Voluntary Service: People of all ages after completing compulsory full-time schooling, men and women. Younger volunteers acquire and deepen their personal and social skills, while older volunteers contribute their own life and professional experience. There is no upper age limit.

How long does the service last?

As a rule, the Federal Volunteer Service lasts twelve months, but at least six months.

How does the service work?

The specially appointed professional and personal supervisors impart extensive knowledge and skills and also act as contact persons.

What are the conditions? Is there an entitlement to vacation?

The Federal Volunteer Service is basically a full-time service. However, volunteers over the age of 27 can also work part-time for more than 20 hours a week. The provisions of the Federal Leave Act apply accordingly to leave. For an adult volunteer, this means an entitlement to at least 24 working days of leave for a twelve-month period of service (working days are all calendar days that are not Sundays or public holidays).

What else is important?

Participation in seminars is required by law. A total of 25 seminar days are mandatory during a twelve-month Federal Volunteer Service. Volunteers who are older than 27 take part in the seminars to an appropriate extent. As a rule, at least one day per month is considered appropriate.

Do you receive remuneration?

The Federal Volunteer Service is an unpaid voluntary service. However, volunteers receive pocket money from €215 for their service. Social security contributions are paid via the city of Gera.
