Once again this year, the city of Gera is offering all interested citizens, guests and tourists a free SMARTCity city tour of Gera. The 90-minute themed tour provides insights and background information on the specific projects that have already been developed as part of the SMARTCity pilot project and which are making life in the city easier and more attractive in the long term with the help of modern technology. SMARTCity can be experienced on foot or by bike at nine different stations between the city center, Untermhaus and the southern city center.

For example, the digital city guidance system will be presented, which offers a QR code-based orientation aid when visiting the city, as well as the planned mobility islands and the interactive theater, which plays between the analog and digital worlds. Furthermore, visitors can try out a solar bench to see how mobile devices can be charged using locally produced electricity. In Ufer-Elster-Park, visitors can find out how solar lights with motion sensors detect when people are approaching on foot or by bike and adjust the brightness accordingly. In addition, participants will be shown how SMARTCity also shines in the areas of sport, safety, service and modern forms of living.

The offer is organized on behalf of the city by the association "Gästeführer Region Gera e. V.". The specific dates for the SMARTCity city tours in 2024 will be announced in due course.
