Integration assistance
Some people with disabilities need help so that they can do normal things: For example, working, going to school, playing sports, going to the movies, talking to other people. Integration assistance is designed to ensure that people with disabilities receive this help.
Children or young people are entitled to integration assistance in accordance with Section 35a (1) SGB VIII if
- their mental health is very likely to deviate from the typical state for their age for more than six months, and
- their participation in society is therefore impaired or such an impairment is to be expected.
The youth welfare office must obtain the opinion of a child and adolescent psychiatrist or therapist to determine the deviation in mental health. The opinion must be drawn up on the basis of the International Classification of Diseases in the German version published by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (ICD-10).
In accordance with § 35a (2) SGB VIII, assistance is provided according to the needs of the individual case.
- in outpatient form,
- in day-care facilities for children or in other day-care facilities,
- by suitable caregivers and
- in day and night facilities and other forms of accommodation.
The Youth Welfare Office has overall professional responsibility for the decision and provision of assistance in accordance with Section § 35a SGB VIII.
