Office for Education
The Office for Education is responsible for all public schools in Gera and manages the municipal facilities: City and regional library, "Aenne Biermann" adult education center, "Heinrich Schütz" music school, boarding school and the city archive. Other tasks of the office include ensuring the deployment of administrative staff in the school secretariats, coordinating school registration, collecting after-school care fees and ensuring the transportation of pupils.

- Deployment of administrative staff in the school secretariats
- Creation and updating of the school network plan
- Coordination of school registration for children of school age and transition to secondary schools
- Cooperation with student and parent representatives and school support associations
Operation and provision of the youth traffic school with traffic course
Citizens can also contact the Office for Education with the following concerns:
- Organization and financing of transport for pupils on their way to school
- Collection of after-school care fees
- Statement on guest school applications for decision by the State Education Authority
Tasks relating to school career advice, school supervision, school registration and the approval of guest school relationships are not carried out by the Office for Education. This area of responsibility is handled by the East Thuringia State Education Authority as an authority of the Free State of Thuringia. The school registration itself must be carried out at the responsible school.
