Civil status certificates can be requested by e-mail (standesamt@gera.de), by FAX (0365 8382545) or by letter (Standesamt Gera, Kornmarkt 12, 07545 Gera). We recommend the request by e-mail. You will find the relevant application forms under Downloads.

Civil status certificates must be issued on request to the persons to whom the register entry relates, as well as their spouses, partners, ancestors and descendants. Other persons have a right to the issue of civil status certificates if they can credibly demonstrate a legal interest; in the case of the register of births or deaths, the credible demonstration of a legitimate interest is sufficient if the application is made by a sibling of the child or the deceased. Persons over the age of 16 are entitled to make an application. (§ 62 Para. 1 PStG)

The collection of civil status certificates is only possible in exceptional cases and only by appointment.

How can I pay the fee if I order a birth, marriage / civil partnership or death certificate electronically or in writing?

We recommend paying the fee by cash on delivery. This is the only way to track your shipment. You only pay when you receive the certificate(s). Payment is made directly to the letter carrier or at the post office. Another advantage is that we ensure that the requested civil status case has also been notarized in Gera before the fee is paid. This saves you a lengthy remittance procedure. The fee per certificate is €10. A delivery and cash on delivery fee totaling €6.00 is also charged per consignment.

Payment in advance is also possible. We then require proof of payment of the fee and a copy of your identity card with the request letter.
