Applying for permission to retain German citizenship
Do you have German citizenship and would also like to take on a foreign citizenship?
German citizenship is not lost when acquiring a foreign citizenship only if a German citizenship authority grants permission to retain German citizenship before acquiring the foreign citizenship (retention permit).
If you intend to acquire a foreign nationality, you are therefore advised to contact the citizenship authority responsible for your place of residence in good time beforehand.

Information and application forms can be obtained by telephone on 0365/838-1910 or 1913, or by appointment in person from the Citizenship Office at STADTSERVICE H35.
