Tasks of the municipal veterinary office

    The task of official food monitoring is to protect consumers from health hazards, misleading information and deception, thereby ensuring a high level of consumer health protection. The Veterinary and Food Surveillance Office regularly carries out random checks to ensure that food business operators are complying with the applicable legal regulations when dealing with food, cosmetic products, tobacco products and consumer goods.

    Further tasks of the Veterinary and Food Inspection Office:

    • Monitoring of primary agricultural production businesses
    • Approval of businesses
    • Inspection of food transports
    • Determining the causes of illnesses following food consumption
    • Advice on construction measures and the proper handling of foodstuffs
    • Processing EU warnings and consumer complaints
    • Ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections of livestock and game
    • Residue monitoring for meat and meat products
