Solid manure storage

Special attention must also be paid to groundwater protection when storing solid manure.

Facilities for the storage of solid manure must be equipped with a water-impermeable base plate. The base plate must be enclosed at the sides and protected against the ingress of surface water from the surrounding terrain.

It must be ensured that liquid manure, silage seepage and precipitation water contaminated with solid manure or silage is completely collected and properly disposed of as waste water or recycled as waste, unless it can be used in accordance with good professional fertilization practice.

Installations for the storage of solid manure in the floodplain must be set up and installed in such a way that they cannot change their position at the highest possible water level and substances hazardous to water cannot be washed away or otherwise enter a body of water or a wastewater treatment plant.

Fixed installations for the storage of solid manure with a volume of more than 1,000 cubic meters of solid manure must be notified in writing to the lower water authority.
